Welcome to MommyHealthCoach.com!
This site is dedicated to helping moms create total health through cutting edge information on mind body medicine.
Helping mothers learn to care for themselves as effectively as they care for others is the goal of this site. Many women misunderstand this philosophy as selfish, but a mother's self care is imperative in creating a healthy, happy family.
Every aspect of our lives is interconnected with physical health. Your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, career, finances, and more all contribute to your state of health, yet this concept is poorly understood. Learning about these connections will empower you to improve your health and actualize your potential.
Topics discussed will be those that most affect your life: relationships, family, finances, weight, and the economy. You may subscribe to my daily blog posts on the Teleconference and Events page or you may return each day to read the latest information.
My reasons for specializing in women's behavioral medicine are based on my interest in helping women change the following statistics:
1. There is still a significant gender wage gap. In fact, the American Journal of Sociology recently reported a study which found that mothers are 79% less likely to be hired than non-mothers with equal resumes and job experiences. You can read more about those statistics and cross cultural differences here:
http://www.womensmedia.com/new/Lips-Hilary-gender-wage-gap.shtml
2. Women are twice as likely to suffer from depression as men; this is most likely to occur during childbearing years; depression is the number one cause of disability for women.
3. Single mothers are 3-4x more likely to live in poverty and are noted to have a significantly higher mortality rate.
4. Women are twice as likely to suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which makes them 9x more likely to be psychiatrically hospitalized.
5. Men are more likely to be victims of all crimes except rape and sexual assault. Recent statistics have shown that violence against women happens to be much more common than we thought due to underreporting. You can read that full report here:

6. he United States lags far behind other countries when it comes to supporting families. Harvard researchers studied over 170 countries and found that the United States was one of only four nations without some form of national paid leave for new mothers. (The others were Liberia, Papua New Guinea and Swaziland.)
7. Looking at the twenty countries with the top economies in the world, the United States is the only one that does not have a national minimum standard for paid sick days.
8. When compared with married or partnered mothers, single mothers are:
-
Twice as likely to die of circulatory diseases.
-
Twice as likely to die of cancer.
-
Three times as likely to die of diabetes.
-
Four times as likely to be killed in an accident.
-
Four times as likely to be murdered.
-
Five times as likely to die of respiratory diseases.
-
Five times as likely to commit suicide.
-
Five times as likely to die of cirrhosis.
If this site improves the quality of your life at all, I would love to hear about it. You can write to me at MommyHealthCoach@gmail.com. Live, learn, laugh, and return.
